A New Chapter

Wow, it’s hard to believe that 6 months of fighting cancer in Texas has finally come to a close. Being cancer free is such a miracle, yet I hear the words of being diagnosed echo in my head like I heard them just moments ago. It seems like just yesterday we arrived, but at the same time, it feels like a lifetime that we have been away. What a time of deep thought and reflection I have found myself in over these last few days.

With that being said, we can finally announce that:

We are moving back to Colorado this week!

Nicole walking to the right slightly blurred out smiling in a green shirt in front a brick wall

The best way to describe the feeling overall? Emotional.

We are:

•excited to see family and friends
•thrilled to move into a new house
•pumped to get back to work {Wes much sooner than me as I continue to recover}
•ecstatic to meet new people
•motivated to write, read, and serve, and
•jubilated to grow in our faith through involvement with church and community

We are also:

•sad to be leaving my family, our friends {old and new}, and our incredible medical team
•thinking about all of the abrupt changes ahead
•wondering how we fit back into life in Colorado after 6 months of being gone
•hoping that cancer does not return
•exercising extreme caution about my recovery, especially now that I will be far away from my medical team

So how do we work with this range of emotion to allow us to be content and at peace? Here is what has been helpful for me this week:

Remembering: God calls us to remember his faithfulness and deliverance in the good times and the bad. We can be so forgetful of his goodness and how He holds our future, so by taking time to reflect on God’s perfect guidance of our lives in the past, we remember that we can trust Him with everything that is to come.

Recalling the facts: “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?” -Luke‬ ‭12:25‬ – I need this reminder more often than not! It’s so true, isn’t it? {I 100% recommend reading Luke 12:22-31 as well for further encouragement!}

Reading: The Bible is filled with incredible stories of people, just like you and me, who faced huge changes in their lives! Check out the lives of Matthew, John, and Paul, for example. It will fill you with hope and encouragement that you and I can navigate new seasons/adventures, too.

Resting: It can be really easy to lose sleep over things. I’m such a thinker and my mind too often runs at night. So God invites you and me to talk to Him. But not just that, He offers us a much lighter load to carry! “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.””‭‭ – Matthew‬ ‭11:29-30

I hope that you find encouragement and peace today. God is for you and not against you, my friend. We can do this by his power and strength!

So, here’s to a new chapter ahead! Colorado, here we come!

  4. Nicole,

    It makes me happy that you are cancer feee and able to return home back to Colorado! Praise Jesus for such a blessing and miracle. Your faith in the Lord definitely shines through you. As I’m going through my own season of waiting and trusting after a terrible ski accident, to have positive and strong women that rely on the lord on social media is refreshing. Keep on being you and I wish you nothing by the best on this next journey.
