Wonder Woman is incredible
Possessing strength, reflexes, and speed
With accelerated healing
And a lifetime of immortality.

She can fly and talk to animals
And carries a sword and shield, too.
She has her bracelets and tiara,
And can make you honest with her lasso of truth.

Wonder Woman, you inspire us
In the comics and on tv.
So I want to acknowledge cancer warriors
Who are a wonder in reality:

Her strength comes after diagnosis
As she fights for her life each day.
She wipes away tears and looks death in the face
And says, “No, cancer, not today.”

Her reflexes may be slower,
But they have to be now, you see,
From repeated pokes from needles
She learns to handle surgeries.

Speed doesn’t come in the form of running
And not always witty, due to chemo brain,
But her quickness to love, forgive, and passions are clear
When told her life could be taken away.

In regards to accelerated healing
That is every cancer fighter’s dream.
But her endurance and perseverance
Is beyond what many have ever seen.

She’s not immortal here on earth
But one could think she is, just so.
She takes poison to fight another day
Though the form of taking chemo.

The “flying” that she does is not in the sky
But it is on the ground she goes
Appointment to appointment
Just trying to get well enough to go back home.

Now she can talk to animals, too
Even if they don’t answer her back
But she cares for her family and pets through it all
Making sure that they never lack.

The swords and shields she bears
Are not made of bronze, copper, or steel
They are her God, medical teams, and loved ones
That lead her through the battle field.

The bracelets that she wears upon her wrists
Are far from indestructible
They are white with her name and date of birth
Reminding her of her “patient status” in the midst of all her struggle.

And her tiara isn’t filled with diamonds
But believe me, she is royalty.
She faces a world around her
With a gorgeous head and no hair to see.

The truth is you are Wonder Woman
And you’re not the only one
You’re surrounded with fighters just like you
Some older and others young.

You are brave and bold and beautiful
As you face the disease inside
Take one day at a time, my friend,
And lift each other up on this wild ride.

We will never stop fighting for one another
Until the cancer count is zero.
As we fight and pray, hear this today:
YOU ARE A SUPERHERO.
